BOLUS: the free daily medical association game

BOLUS is a quick daily game for healthcare students, residents, attendings and anyone who likes medicine. Every day there is one target, such as a disease, a drug or a structure. You tap the facts that belong to it, fast, before the clock runs out. Everyone gets the same target each day, so you can compare scores with friends.

How to play

You start with a short clock and 3 lives. Each right answer adds a second, and a streak adds more: the 1st right answer in a row adds 1 second, the 2nd adds 2, the 3rd and every one after adds 3, and a wrong answer resets it. Every level up adds 10 seconds. Each wrong answer costs a life, and three misses end the run. Every 6 right answers you level up, from Intern to Resident, Fellow and Attending, and the questions get harder. You get one scored run a day, then unlimited practice runs that don't count, and a new target appears at midnight Eastern. Before each run you pick a perk: Cardiology (an extra heart), Internal Medicine (UpToDate wipes the wrong answers once), Anesthesiology (a 45 second start), Psychiatry (one skip for +6 seconds) or Surgery (+4 seconds per right answer when under 5 seconds).

Play for your school

Pick your medical, dental or osteopathic school and every run counts toward it. The school leaderboard ranks schools by the average of their best five players each week, and it resets every Monday, so you can see which school ranks highest.

Is BOLUS free?

Yes. BOLUS is free to play, with no download, and you do not need an account. You can sign in if you want your streak and coins saved across devices. It works in any browser on your phone or computer.

Who is it for?

Healthcare students of every kind (medical, dental, nursing, pharmacy, PA and pre-health), residents, attendings, and anyone who likes testing what they know about medicine, from microbiology and pharmacology to cardiology and oral and maxillofacial surgery. It is for education and fun and is not medical advice.

Who makes BOLUS?

BOLUS is made by OMS Collective, a study group run by an oral and maxillofacial surgery resident, which also makes free study guides and CBSE practice exams for dental students.
